    18 March 2024

    Dear Parent/Carer,

It is with regret that I must inform you that we have been notified by the NEU that several of their members employed at St Michael’s Church of England High School intend to strike on Wednesday, 20th March.

I would like to assure you that we have worked extremely hard to avoid this situation.  We have held what we believe to be positive, constructive talks with the union with the aim of avoiding any disruption, as reflected in our joint statement issued to staff on Thursday, 14th March.

Sadly, despite our best efforts to fully engage with the union and the significant progress we have made to date, we understand some staff still intend to carry out strike action. Whilst we respect their right to do so, we would have much preferred to resolve this issue through negotiation and we will continue to engage proactively in discussions with the union to avoid any further disruption to your child’s education.

Unfortunately, until the day we cannot fully assess how this will impact the school community but please be assured the school leadership will continue to focus on minimising any disruption. Our priority will be to support those students who are working hard towards GCSE and A‑Levels. Based on the information we have available to us currently, students in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 will be expected to attend school as usual on this day. School will be closed to students in Years 7, 8 and 9.

This situation could still change, so please be alert to any communication from us via ClassCharts, where we will update you as quickly as possible with any change of plans.

We understand the significant impact this uncertainty will have on pupils and families, and we are committed to continuing to work with union colleagues to address issues. Once again, I apologise for any disruption that may occur.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

  • GCSE Results

    Thu 24 Aug 2023

Fantastic to celebrate our students’ achievements in their GCSE results. These results are a testament to the hard work and ongoing resilience in overcoming a disrupted educational journey to succeed in a wide range of subjects. A big well done to them all and thank you to the staff for supporting and guiding them on their way.

We are so proud of all our Year 11 students who were part of our St Michael’s family and we look forward to welcoming many of them back to our Sixth Form. We wish them all the very best in whatever future path they decide on and we are sure they will achieve every success!
