We have 6 specialist mathematicians each with a dedicated mathematics classroom with a fully interactive whiteboard, and one dedicated Level 3 mathematics Teaching Assistant.
Every student has a personal password to access MyMaths resources, Mathswatch VLE and Justmaths for school and home use. Examination students are provided with workbooks and revision guides.
Our students are set on entry based upon KS2 data and these groupings are reviewed regularly. Our half-termly progress reports allow us to track improvements and our teaching staff target intervention to support students who have found it difficult to reach their learning target. We follow the National Curriculum in Years 7 and 8 and Functional Skills tasks are taught as mini projects in Year 7 and Year 8.
Our students begin studying for their GCSE examination course in Year 9 and currently study a Linear GCSE course for examination at the end of Year 11,. We have 2 tiers of entry, Higher (grades A*-E) and Foundation (grades C-G) which we feel provides flexibility to suit all our students' learning styles to ensure that our young mathematicians are challenged sufficiently and are prepared for college, employment and university. Tier of entry is not fixed and the final decision is not made until during year 11.
To motivate, challenge our students further, we take part in many enrichment activities eg Maths Challenge competitions and several of our students competed in the National Cipher Challenge.
Older students are offered after school support and holiday revision sessions. Our Advanced Level Mathematics Teachers provide a seamless transition to Sixth form and talks from former students broaden our students' mathematical horizons and ambitions.
